Raw Sugar Cookies

Did you ever think you could make Raw Sugar Cookies?

I did not until I wanted to create a recipe my kids could use in place of the usual cooked cookies. They were going to a party, a Christmas party, where all the kids would be decorating sugar cookies. I love raw food challenges like these.

I like to eat nuts sparingly to replace them is some raw food recipes I will use buckwheat or oat groats.

When coming up with the raw sugar cookie recipe I created a base with the buckwheat and started adding different sweeteners until it tasted good. Then I rolled it all in a ball covered in in parchment paper and put it in the refrigerator until the party the next day.

The kids had a great time at the party cutting out raw sugar cookies, eating the raw sugar cookie dough and then decorating with raw cacao nibs and shredded coconut. We put the finished cookies on a plate, took them home and dehydrated them.

They received the experience of Holiday Sugar Cookie creating and the next day they enjoyed delicious raw cookies and were able to continue on their health path.

Remember raw food can and is fun when creativity and love are at the center of the experience.

Have you Heard of the NEW Jawcerciser from the Raw Family? Did you know our own saliva can help prevent tooth decay and whiten at the same time? My teeth are whitening from all 3 minutes of chewing a day.

Raw Sugar Cookie Recipe

  • 2 cups of soaked (at least overnight) buckwheat or oat groats
  • 1/2 cup dates or more to taste
  • 1/4 cup raw Agave Nectar
  • 1/4 cup raw palm sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon vanilla powder or 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Blend all ingredients in a food processor making sure not to get in too wet. You want to be able to roll the dough out if possible. You can also make a powder (flour) out of ground oat groats or use shredded coconut or more raw palm sugar to dry the dough out.

Feel free to decorate with shredded dry coconut, palm sugar or raw cacao nibs. Also drying finely shredded butternut squash, beets and other color fresh food can also be fun.
