A recipe, like a story, can evolve from one inspirational person to another. Pasted around and down from one creative being to the next, each adding his or her own input and splash of taste sensation. Perhaps this process may alternate the flavor each time, to add a new twist and turn to satisfy each individuals taste buds.

It all started one afternoon when a close friend of mine, Jeannetta, read an article in My Crazy Sexy Life Blog. She along with Sarma, My Crazy Sexy Life author, had been searching for coffee substitutes. In the article Sarma creates a morning Super Food smoothie. She adds:
My friend, Jeannetta, decided to alter this recipe and came up with what she called Better Than Coffee, Chocolate Smoothie. She took Sarma's recipe idea and added her own:
I am personally not a coffee or chocolate fan and Jeannetta, knowing how I love to play with recipes, kept asking me to create a better version of her recipe. After a few months of gentle encouragement from Jeannetta I decided I was up for adding my two cents to this ever evolving chocolate smoothie sensation.
When the creative juices start to flow something amazing and at times delicious manifests. When I under took this inspiration of my part in the evolution of this delicious smoothie sensation I started to remember something about coffee I had learned years ago as a Starbuck's barista.
The coffee bean has a bitter and an almost burnt flavor. raw
chocolate or cacao (raw chocolate pod powder) has a bitter flavor and
still not quite the burnt flavor. I thought that adding Foods
Alive Organic Mesquite Powder, 8 Ounce Bags (Pack of 2) would add a bit of the roasted or
musk taste of coffee, raw mesquite is also sweet and would enhance the
deep chocolate flavor as well.
Another delicious addition I love to add is fresh vanilla bean
powder. I found a Organic
Raw Sun Cured Whole Vanilla Bean Powder - 4 oz to really raw more close to fresh
than the liquid alcohol or sugar kind. It is a bit on the pricey side
AND well worth the flavor. It adds the perfect vanilla flavor without
alcohol and/or sugar. After you start using this fresh vanilla you will
definitely taste the difference if you go back to the vanilla liquid
form.
For the added sweetness, Stevia is quickly becoming one of my favorite sweetners. Often times I will collect fresh Stevia leaves from the herb plant, dry them in the dehydrator, and then grind them into a powder with a mortar and pastel for future use. Next to fresh fruit it is the best form of added sweetener.
After the Chocolate Smoothie was complete, it was the best raw creamy sensation perfect for those who are not even a chocolate fan like myself. The smoothie or shake reminding me of a Better Than Coffee or Chocolate latte, more of a chocolate shake with a hint of coffee.
Feel free to play around with any of these delicious recipes and create your own taste of Coffee or Chocolate heaven!
